“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.” Jesus goes on to say, “I have prepared a place for you. I will take you to myself so that where I am you also may be.”

There are a couple of shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime right now. One is called The Good Place and the other is called Upload. Perhaps you have seen them. They both deal with what it is like in the afterlife. They both deal with creating a place for the characters that would most perfectly fit them and suit them. They discover that as they get there, their imagination didn’t quite do it. It was not quite enough to make it really the good place or the placethat they had hoped for.

The reality is that our imaginations can take us only so far and that Jesus desires to prepare a place for us beyond anything we can think or imagine. That is about all we know of heaven throughout all of scripture. We know it willbe beyond anything that we could ever think and imagine, but it is good for us to imagine it. It is good for us to think about what it will be like to be in heaven and what it will be like to be in the Father’s home – to be home with the Father.

I invite you to try to think of that. What would your dwelling place look like? Heis going to create the perfect dwelling place for you. What is it going to look like? Mine is going to be a beach house. It is going to be right on the water overlooking the water with the beautiful scenery. Some might be a cabin in the woods. Others might imagine a small cottage, or it might be a huge mansion that they think of.

I think it is good for us to imagine and start to imagine what that place that Jesus is preparing for us is going to look like. I say that because it is good for us to enter into that place now. We do not have to wait for heaven to enter into the place that he is creating for us. So, for you, just take time to really meditate and imagine where that place is and what it looks like. Where do you feel safe? Where do you feel at peace? Where do you feel at home? Ultimately, it is not just about being in that place, but it is about being with Jesus in that place. He wants to be with you in our heavenly home..Jesus said, “If you know me, you know the Father.” Phillip says, “Master, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” And, Jesus says, “Have I been with you for so long and still you do not know, Phillip? Whoever has seen me hasseen the Father.” The same is true for all of us. Whenever we encounter Jesus, we encounter God the Father. That same room, that same house, that same place that we go to is an encounter with Jesus and also an encounter with our Heavenly Father. The beautiful thing, too, is that we believe that our loved ones who have gone before us are with Jesus and the Father, and they are in that place, too. It is a glimpse for us of heaven. It is an experience that we get to have on earth of being together in this heavenly home. So, let your imagination run wild. Let theHoly Spirit work with you and reveal that to you. Let that be a place we go to whenever we are afraid, whenever we are struggling, whenever we are upset, whenever we are angry, whenever we are worried. Close your eyes and imagine going to this place that he has prepared for you. As we continue to do this throughout life, we will come to know Our Lord more. We will come to know ourHeavenly Father more, and ultimately, it will prepare us for the eternal place that he is creating for us. The best part is we do not have to create it. Jesus says that he goes ahead and creates it for us, and then he comes back again to take us to himself. He says one of the most beautiful, empowering lines in scripture, “I am the way, and the truth and the life.” Whenever we get lost and we do not know what to do or how to get to our heavenly home, just look at Jesus and imagine him putting his arms out to you saying, “I am the way, and the truth and the life.” He ultimately will lead you into your heavenly home where we will be joined together with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, the angels, and saints in the kingdom of God. “For in My Father’s house there are many dwelling places.”
